"I have a lot to give"
In her cover letter, Teresa said "I
think in numbers. I have been an accountant all my life. I have
worked all over the world, for such bodies as the Banana Producers
Network,
a subset of the World Bank. I am retired now but have a lot to give.
I don't need or want to be paid but I don't want to drain my
retirement fund and I want a bed. Is there such an arrangement?"
"I've been very impressed with the speed and effectiveness of your
response to my vague request. Your knowledge of voluntary
services made for meaningful discussions and a custom made plan of
whom to contact. It saved me a great deal of research, which might
have been hard to carry out successfully. I have begun to get
positive responses from the organizations that I contacted."

Transforming the Slums
"I asked Ann for three Lists: resources to enable me to apply my
architectural and design expertise to addressing the slums in Lagos and
in West Africa; resources to connect me to prospective entrepreneurs
throughout West Africa so that I can teach how to develop, produce and
market village handicrafts to global markets;
and resources that connect me to people who would benefit from my web
building and media skills.
Having grown up in Nigeria, I know many resources. Ann gave me
organizations and networks of people that made my mission easier. Ann
did the legwork that I had no time to do. There are few if any
organizations who propose to transform the slums. Ann gave me the
pioneers that I will ally and collaborate with. In working with Ann, I
found that she thinks like I do: both big picture and down to earth;
someone committed to changing the world."

Conflict Resolution
Research in the Ukraine
(by Fulbright Scholar for earlier Research in Croatia)
NGOabroad was a real help to me during
my search for Ukrainian NGO's with whom to intern. After 3 months of
searching and trying to make contact with various organizations, I wrote to
nGoAbroad: " I am a graduate student studying Peace and
Conflict Resolution and would like to look at the role political apologies
play in rebuilding trust. Ukrainian President Yushchenko has built his term
around the idea that if you make a mistake - you acknowledge it and move
on. He has also made various apologies. In order to pursue this research
project, I must find an organization that is willing to host me. Can you help?"
 |
"Ann
was able to provide a detailed collection of NGO's that were in my
interest area.
NGOabroad saved
me lots of time and frustration! Found some organizations that I hadn't
been able to track down and offered
multiple strategies for getting connected. Flexible, fast, and personal
service NGOabroad was a definite sanity saver in my search for an
internship in the Ukraine.

Feeding the Hungry
"I grew up on a farm in Nebraska. I've always wanted to see that the
hungry are fed. I have a PhD in Food Processing--I know canning,
preserving, ingredient technology, food safety and slaughtering & meat
processing. I have worked for three decades in the US. As I get older, I
feel more pressed to fulfill my life long dream of doing my part to see
that the truly hungry of this world are fed."
"Ann: I reviewed the lists today. The info you've put together is
priceless.
Kudos for your fine work!!!!"

Public Health: Teamwork from Half a World Away
A friend recommended NGOabroad to me after I completed a Master’s of
Science in International Healthcare
at Bocconi University in Milan, Italy. At Bocconi, I met an amazing
group of students from around the world. One student, Jovita, was
very bright, determined & destined to make a difference. After
graduation, Jovita was having difficulty finding work in her home
country, Uganda. Knowing that NGOabroad assists people in entering
international work, I contacted Ann. Ann helped Jovita clarify her
long-term career goals and matched her education and skills with
potential NGOs. Ann continues to stay in contact with Jovita and
provide invaluable advice and connections for her. NGOabroad exceeded
all expectations I had. If you are looking for rewarding field
placements or work, NGOabroad is the organization to contact!

Working with Autistic Children
"I thank Ann very much for the
resource lists sended. I looked for
possibilities (volunteer opportunities
and paid works) to work and live
good quality of life earlier and had a lot of disappointment. I have got
very detailed information from Ann about working with autistic children
in Malta and other Mediterranean and European countries. Ann is honest,
works quickly and soundly, does not discriminate adversely and she has
helpful attitude according to my experience."

Electrician/Solar Installer
“Help me take my skills as an electrician and photovoltaic installer
to the parts of
the world that need electricity. Solar is the perfect solution for
remote places
which have lots of sun.”
"Ann, thanks for your Herculean effort."
